Indang, Cavite is a growing municipality that is known for its iconic Kalamay Buna or Kalamay Indang. This product that is made out of glutinous rice, coconut milk, brown sugar and coconut meat provided a means of livelihood to the people of Indang, Cavite, particularly women. The Kalamay Indang culture has been sustained for almost a century now, and further improved in recent years through an official recognition of the Department of Trade and Industry, and continues to demonstrate the resilience and dedication of the people in this municipality.




With its intensive and physically demanding process of creation, there is a considerable decline of interest among the young people and poses the problem of lack of continuity for this Kalamay culture. However, people who have been in this industry of Kalamay-making remain hopeful about the future of Kalamay. After all, this culture was maintained for this long with years of accumulative hard work and effort. Through initiatives such as Project OTOP, local communities are highly encouraged to embrace their own and promote their local heritage through goods like Kalamay Buna that represent the creativity of the people of Indang
